Customer goal
In Spring 2005, the management at Kantonsspitals Freiburg (HCF) decided to implement measures to optimize the fields of purchasing and stock management. The goal was to introduce a solution, with which every product arriving at HCF can be identified exactly complete with precise information on the relevant site. A volume of around 25 million items per year (including central store and hospital chemist) was to be processed for 25 users.
Practical experiences
"This solution offers a wide range of benefits, in particular reduced administration, removal of the double shift check on medication, increased security, reduced losses incurred by non-invoiced medication and a more intelligent stock management system", explains one employee.
The application
In close cooperation with hospital administration solution provider Opale (Ordi-Conseil SA), ICS developed a tailor-made solution to enable the hospital staff to carry out instructions issued by the hospital management: the main chemist, for example, was equipped with the mobile data recording terminal DT-X7 for reading in the medication code and printing labels. Data processed in this way is transferred directly to the Opal application. The result is complete traceability of all products and medication - from entry into stock at the hospital chemist through to distribution to the departments requiring the product.
The product DT-X7
The DT-X7 makes work easier and increases efficiency: the ergonomic hand-held terminal is equipped with a high-performance processor for demanding applications and can be used in a range of different network environments. Integrated IrDA and Bluetooth® interface included as standard with this terminal. The ability to read barcodes reliably and quickly is a basic prerequisite for efficient operations. The excellent performance of the DT-X7 in this area is a result of the implementation of a first-rate scanner combined with improved decoding algorithms. The ergonomic S-shaped design ensures convenient operation, and weighing in at just 145 grams the DT-X7 is also lightweight and manageable. Its casing is made from hard-wearing plastic, offering excellent protection against knocks and dropping. The data recording device is therefore perfectly suited for use in tough working environments.
