The customer
The Waldstadion stadium in Frankfurt was the first World Cup stadium to use the forward-looking devices for performing secure and error-free monitoring of electronic tickets and access authorisation for VIP areas.
Voices of experience
"Thanks to their combination of various performance features, the new units were optimally suited for the 2006 World Cup. The up-to-date MIFARE identification feature can be connected, together with WLAN or GPRS and Bluetooth®, to a high-capacity handy terminal, which also continues to function properly under harsh environmental conditions such as rain, snow and frost, at temperatures as low as -20°C", explains Thomas Uppenkamp, Head of the Mobile Industrial Solutions Division of CASIO Europe GmbH.

Use
The system house PDS GmbH, specialised in solutions for mobile data collection, has introduced a new device model of the already versatile DT-X10 from CASIO. This handheld terminal can read MIFARE RFID encoding standards, in addition to familiar functions such as GPRS or wireless LAN and Bluetooth®. The devices thus offer an extremely broad spectrum of application for electronic passports, or "e-ticketing". Via WLAN, visitor statuses and seating positions are matched with the server on an on-going basis. Once a card has been recognised, it is also possible to call up the photo of the card holder on the color display via WLAN. The World Cup stadium in Frankfurt used the DT-X10 with the new RFID function to enable the secure and error-free identification of electronic tickets.
